About Sephora

Sephora is one of the world's leading beauty retailers, with thousands of stores across dozens of countries. When Sephora needs to train employees on company-wide policies - Diversity & Inclusion, data privacy, HR procedures - the content has to reach every market, every role, and every language.

Problem

Sephora's L&D team needed to produce a full library of corporate training videos covering sensitive, complex topics: Diversity & Inclusion, Privacy, and Human Resources compliance. The requirements made live-action impractical:

  • Scale. The series needed 30+ modules - filming that many scenarios with actors and locations would take well over a year and blow the budget.
  • Global reach. The training had to work in multiple languages and markets. Reshooting live-action for each language wasn't feasible.
  • Brand consistency. Every module had to look and feel like Sephora - same characters, same visual language, same tone - regardless of topic.
  • Speed. The team needed the full library delivered in months, not years.

Solution

Sharp Eye Animation partnered with Sephora's team to design and produce the entire training library as custom animation. Here's how the production was structured:

One character and style system for the whole series. Before animating a single module, we designed a cast of characters and a visual style guide - store environments, brand colors, scene templates - that would carry across every video. This up-front investment made each subsequent module faster and cheaper to produce, and gave the series a cohesive identity employees would recognize.

Batched production across topics. Rather than producing one video at a time, we ran multiple modules through the pipeline simultaneously - scripting the next batch while animating the current one. This is how 30+ videos shipped in under six months.

Built for localization from day one. Every module was designed with text, voiceover, and visual elements that could be swapped for different markets without re-animating. When Sephora needed localized versions, we produced them as variants of the existing masters - a fraction of the cost and time of starting from scratch. Strict brand adherence. Sephora's brand guidelines are exacting. Every frame - character design, color palette, typography, retail environment details - was reviewed and approved against Sephora's brand standards before animation began.

Results

30+ training videos delivered in under six months, all adhering to Sephora's brand guidelines. The series covered Diversity & Inclusion, Privacy, and Human Resources - topics where clarity and sensitivity are critical.

Localized into multiple languages, extending the ROI of the original production investment across Sephora's global workforce without additional production cycles.

Positive reception from Sephora's leadership. The videos were praised for clearly conveying key messages while matching Sephora's visual identity. The partnership didn't end with the initial engagement - Sephora has continued working with Sharp Eye Animation since 2021.

"My team recently had the pleasure of working with Sharp Eye Animation on a number of corporate training videos. The team took time to understand our vision for the project and provided valuable suggestions and expertise to help bring it to life. The final products exceeded our team's expectations." - S. Dhanani, Senior Manager, Sephora

"Working with Sharp Eye Animation was a breeze. Our first project was in 2021 and [Sephora] has not stopped working with them since. I've also connected Sharp Eye with other internal partners who would say the same about Daniel and team. They will bring your vision to life and make changes until you're 100% satisfied. Can't recommend them enough." - F. Melara, Video Producer, Sephora

Why animation was the right call

The Sephora engagement illustrates why animation dominates enterprise training at scale:

  • No actors, no locations, no reshoots. When a policy changes, the affected scenes are updated and re-rendered - not refilmed.
  • Series economics. The character and style system designed for module 1 made modules 2–30 dramatically faster and cheaper. This is the economics of training video series pricing.
  • Localization without multiplication. One production run, multiple markets. The alternative - separate live-action shoots per language - would have cost multiples of the budget.
  • Consistency at scale. Every employee in every market sees the same characters, the same visual language, the same training. No variation from trainer to trainer or location to location.
